Would there be switches on car amplifiers to change the ohm setting?

Im planning to have four JBL GTO607C components on my car powered by a Sony XM-554ZR amplifier. The JBL components are rated at 2 ohms and the amplifier specs say it can be tuned to 2 or 4 ohms. Can someone clarify if amplifiers will have switches to change the output at 2/4 ohms and will a 2 ohm amplifier to a 2 ohm speaker will drain my car battery ?

Some amps are able to switch ohms. I looked up the info on that amp and its stable at 2 ohms. 65w x 4 @ 2ohms. So run the components right into the amp, they will be going in @ 2 ohms. You should be fine just make sure to set the gains and the crossovers on the high pass, becouse you dont want the low frequiences. As fas as the 2ohms pulling more current, Im not sure it will pull more, but i dont think it will. Components dont pull as much as a sub. You should be fine.

older amps do have switches .. i have a kenwood 821 it has a thing for 4, 2, and bridged .. newer 1s dont have them .. some might .. no it wont drain your battery unless your cranking for long periods of time with the motor off ... but most of the newer amps will configure its-self ... just hook it up and rock on lol
well some amps may have a switch. But I have never ever seen one. The way to determine ohms coming from your amp is in how you wire the subs to the amp. check this site out for diagrams on how to wire for specific ohm loads from your amplifier.
No their are no switches on the amplifier that you have to change The ohm rating is used to tell you the amount of Resistance in the speaker The amp that you are using when you read the specs it will give you two different ratings for RMS(Roots means square)

One for 2 OHM speakers witch will be higher Than the 4 ohm rating. It will Draw a little more power But any after market system will drain your battery if you play it with out the car running
There are no switches to switch the Impedance or ohm load on an amp. if you see any switches on an amp it is to switch the number of output channels, i.e. 4-channel, 2-channel, or mono-block. to switch the ohm load on an amp you have to re wire one of two things. either rewire the subwoofers them selves, i.e. single or dual voice coil and in series or parallel. or you must rewire the way the subs connect to the amp, i.e. bridging a 2 or 4-channel amp. those are the only way to Change ohm load
