How bad is to change gear in automatic transmission when car is not in full stop?

when i go reverse, the digital meter of the civic 07 display 4mph. i step a little bit on the brake and the display change from 2 or 1mph then i change the gear to D. I do the same process from D to reverse. can i still do this? i dont like to feel the dry stop when changing automatic gears.

the case is not the same when changing to parking, i change to parking when car is full stop. just wondering, what happen if i leave the the D gear and turn off the car? is it going to affect any part of the car?

yes it can do damage and severely shorten the life of the transmission. remember, there are gears with teeth inside that transmission, anytime you change from one to another while they are still moving you risk breaking one or more of those teeth, once you break enough, you lose that particular gear.

Not a good idea at all if you expect it to last

most of those practices will result in a dramatic loss of transmission life over time.
A new transmission is a very expensive repair. If you think of your car as another appendage, you will treat it better. Stop, then shift.
