How long can you go without an oil change in a new car? I'm almost at 8,000?

I purchased my car in august,(2010 Ford Fusion if it matters), and it's been telling me i need an oil change for a little over a week, but im going out of town and i won't be able to change it till i leave town, and im traveling about 360 miles... Is there need to be real worried? Thanks

Here is one of the most common mistakes people do. To begin with the maintenance reminder on your vehicle is set for factory settings of %26quot;normal driving.%26quot; This is freeway driving of 50 miles or more at 50 miles an hour in ideal temperatures. No stop and go traffic, no short trips, no mountainous terrain, no hot or cold temperatures. Anything other than that, you are classified as %26quot;severe service driving.%26quot; Now you're looking at a whole different set of intervals. This is where most mechanics, oil shops, part stores, etc. recommend 3,000 miles. For that very reason. So back to your question, most likely you've needed an oil change for a whole lot longer than you thought. Is there need to be worried, honestly probably not, but if something happens to the motor, the Ford isn't going to go %26quot;oh the lights been on for a week, our problem we'll fix it for free%26quot; They will most likely tell you your driving habits merited a more frequent service interval, and now you'll have to pay for the new motor. Not trying to scare you, but see it all the time.

well................if you want your car to last in the long run i recommend you change it.

and i bet your oil probably be brown with dirt by now

so if your going to travel far CHANGE IT
It won't affect the car too much but it might affect the warranty.
360 miles wont hurt too much but it would be better to get it done b4 you go if you can keeping good quality oil in and change as often as you can, can not be beaten.
if you have car trouble and the dealership mechanic finds nasty oil in your engine, warranty will not pay. change the oil.
Change it.. now!

would you rather spend 25$ on a new oil change or would you rather take the chance the engine block cracks the engine seizes completly and your left with a new `%26quot;dead%26quot; 2010 fusion??

Most likely you will make it back, however i can see you take poor care of your vehicles.. if your looking to later re-sell or if your looking to collect on a warranty later ytou might wanna re-think,.. After all its a new car treat it well! i cant imagine the neglect you will have on it when its 5 years old....
Penny wise and pound foolish.

Compare the price of an oil change to the cost of major engine repairs or the cost of the vehicle.
New vehicle first oil change at 500/750 mi.

Second at 1500/2000 mi.

In a new vehicle, the new metal parts release trillions of minute metal particles during break-in. It is best to remove those with an oil AND filter change early on.

Don't believe it? Take the drain container, at 1st and 2nd changes, and hold it up to a bright light and watch the oil %26quot;sparkle%26quot; from the filings.

Believe it or not!
I would have changed the oil twice by now. No worry until it blows right, then worry.

How long can you go, probably until the filter plugs and the oil fails to get to the head through the small passages. How long do you want to go.
Use ONLY synthetic oil, and CHANGE IT NOW!!!! Mobil One 0W-30 or 0W20 depending upon what your manual says to use. DON'T BE FOOLISH!!! You have already gone over the acceptable mileage.
