All synthetics do that...some end up chocolate brown, royal purple is purple to begin with so black is not out of the question. It usually doesn't take a long time as sludge buildups are there even if you change the oil every 2k miles.

If you go from dino oil to synthetic, the synthetic will clean some of the residue from the dino oil and turn black. How fast it takes depends on how much residue there is in the crankcase. Then, when you change the oil %26amp; add more synthetic, it will also pick up some residue, but there will be much less, so it will darken slower, and so on, and so on ....
It depends on the condition of your engine and how you run it, how long it takes for the oil to change. Heat oxidizes and blow-by contaminates oil. Old, worn engines have blow-by. Hard freeway miles cook and oxidize oil. Synthetic resists oxidation better than mineral oil. I changed my synthetic oil about 300 miles ago and it hasn't darkened yet, in my '98 Corolla. The old oil that I used for about 18 months was dark, but you could still see though it. When that oil was put in I drove the car from Oakland, California to Keystone, Colorado, via Wyoming. Hard miles. Fast miles. The old oil was recently changed and the mileage was just under 100,000 miles. First, engine flush was used to really clean the engine inside, because I always do that. I use %26quot;Slick 50%26quot; every change.
yes it is normal it is just a dye it turns black after just a while I use it in my cummins diesel engine just go to www.royalpurple.com and look at questions and answers and they and they will tell you all that you need to know about it.ok stuff just not enough different viscosities for transmission and gear boxes for that I preffer amsoil synthetic bit more but well worth it for 500,000 mile extended drain interval savings in gear boxes.
