You really need to find out why the car is leaking or using oil. If it's leaking, fix the leak! Otherwise, you should change the oil every 3,000 miles. You can just fill it if it's low before that. Use the same weight and viscosity oil (5w-30, 10w-30, 10w-40) that is recommended for your car. Look in the owner's manual for that info.
You need to change it. Even if you were going to use the same oil type you should drain it and replace it.

I assume you know how to change the oil in your car but if not here's a nifty link

Just adding to it will be fine
like the others said find the leak an fix it if no leak then you have bigger problems , either bad valve guides or even worn piston rings and dont just put any oil in that car if it is using oil and has some miles on it you need to use high mileage oil but if not use the oil the car calls for from the dealership but do not use synthetic if you do then you cannot switch back without an engine flush good luck
Any brand of oil sold for cars should work but you can also go with the recommendation from your mechanic. You do need to drain out that old oil in your car when you do the oil change, it's just better for your car to run on clean new oil.

Hope this helps.
until next service you can refill, but do not overfill. Should use same brand as well as weight of oil, like 10-40 wt or whatever was used. Ask your mechanic.
If your car is running low on oil you need to find out why and fix it. Cars do not normally use or lose oil. When they do something is wrong which, if not fixed, could lead to the destruction of the engine. Get it fixed.
Add oil. Use the same kind that is in the engine now.
You should always change the oil. Adding oil does not remove the corrosive particles within the oil. Use oil that is somewhat thick since in the summer heat thins it, something like 20-30 or 40 wt.This is better in your case because a 10-20- wt would slip through the pistons easier. Never mix different kinds of oil. You are safe to use most any brand sold in super stores.
