How does my brother change registration of the car I sold him?

The registration sticker expired but I don't have the paper and I sold him my car. How does he change it? Does he have to go to the DMV?

In texas.
How does my brother change registration of the car I sold him?
yes, to put it in his name and do the tag and title work

What do i need to change a car title to my name in the state of Texas?

well ive heard different things.

Some people tell me i need insurance and a liscense

Others tell me that ownership of the car is different than driving it so all i need is an id and the money for the taxes.

What exactly do i need to put the car title under my name?

I am not gonna say that I am totally sure about the answer.it is really depending on the personal mind.thus it would better for you to try to find the best answer yourself. Here 聽聽www.Autoinsurancepro.info聽聽 is a good resource for reference though.

What happens if i want to change my car from peugeot to vauxhall at the end of finance agreement?

i have a peugeot and the finance finishes in September. If i want to change to a vauxhall at end of agreement, what do i have to do? Do i have to go through peugeot?
What happens if i want to change my car from peugeot to vauxhall at the end of finance agreement?
If you're asking whether or not you can trade-in your current Vauxhall vehicle for a Peugeot vehicle, of course you may. You needn't even wait until you've fully paid for your existing vehicle. Any amount you may still owe will be deducted from the vehicle's trade-in value when you acquire the new vehicle to satisfy the loan obligation.

From there, you may finance the vehicle through Peugeot or any other lender who may be willing to finance you purchase.

Best of luck. I hope this helps.

  • TO CHANGE A CAR ENGINE, IT HAS TO BE SOMETHING IN PARTICULAR FOR A MANUAL TRANSMISSION?

Ok, I will need to replace the engine of a manual transmission car. The engine I need can be from an automatic car? Some advice when replacing engine?
TO CHANGE A CAR ENGINE, IT HAS TO BE SOMETHING IN PARTICULAR FOR A MANUAL TRANSMISSION?
Flywheels are different and there will need to be a pilot bushing/bearing installed in the crankshaft.
TO CHANGE A CAR ENGINE, IT HAS TO BE SOMETHING IN PARTICULAR FOR A MANUAL TRANSMISSION?
Yep the engine should be the same

From standard or auto does not matter

Engines usually have harness for both variations on them already, so it just a matter of the same hooks ups being used as before on your engine not that from the auto
the engine will work, you just have to make sure you use the correct fly wheel though...use the one from the car you already have

How do I change the wire to car battery?

I have a '01 pontiac grand prix, the positive terminal on the battery has completely corroded and broken off. I am unable to unscrew the positive cable to reattach it to a new battery so I bought a new one. My question is how do I change that positive wire? Is there someplace online I can see a diagram for it? I hope this question is clear. I am not car savvy and don't know the terminology.
How do I change the wire to car battery?
Just follow the positive (red) cable and unbolt it from where it is connected (on the car side).

There's not much to it than that.

    Good Luck...

P.S. You might want to get memory saver if you car had radios that has electronic memory or a lock (locked when disconnected from battery.)

How do I change the wire to car battery?
If it has Two inches extra length to it ( the wire ) you just cut the end off of it and replace it with a universal end that meets you battery's requirements, ( top or side post ) .

Bang bang thank you mam, It's done.????????

Do I have to do anything else to my car if I change my engine?

If I change my 305 in my 91 Z28 Camaro to a 350 crate engine with somewhere between 350-400 hp, do I have to do anything else to my car to have it function correctly? Or anything that I should change out for %26quot;better safe than sorry%26quot; reasons? Thanks guys for your time and consideration.
Do I have to do anything else to my car if I change my engine?
The 305 and 350 have the same bell housing bolt pattern, so it will bolt up to your existing tranny.

Do you plan on ditching the TBI/TPI and running a carb, or are you keeping the fuel injection? I'm not sure if the automatic trannies were electronically controlled that year, it may cause some issues there, but there is an aftermarket product for that sort of thing.

If you have an automatic, your tranny will hate you and will not survive too much punishment.
Do I have to do anything else to my car if I change my engine?
    transmission.

    is this a 5spd? auto?

if 5spd, then clutch which will come with tranny.

your drive shafts may not be able to handle the torque produced by a 350 big block.
    Hello

I don't know much about that engine so I can't say anything about the gearbox and diff. and don't know how good it will match to the new engine, But If u are going to gain quite alot of power then I suggest u upgrade your brakes and suspension to be on the safe side.
You may have to change the ECU unit to account for the change of sensors between engines. Check it out with the engine supplier. He should be able to answer the question.

Can I blame the oil change place for my car overheating?

I took my car to get an oil change 2 days ago, they claim to check all my fluids so I leave it up to them. And today, because they did not put enough oil in the engine, I took it back. So they had 2 inspections, tonight my car overheats because of low coolant/antifreeze. I know ultimately I am responsible for the car, but I pay these guys to do the general oversight as they claim in their ads and service agreements, the document I sign at the end indicates that all fluids were checked. I am looking at very expensive repairs due to the overheating, can I hold them responsible?
Can I blame the oil change place for my car overheating?
Probably. I would contact the bureau of automotive repair and give them your account and ask them what you should do. If you paid them to do something that wasn't done they could face some serious fines. Also they will tell you if there's been any other complaints against the mechanics.
Can I blame the oil change place for my car overheating?
It is possible that there is a leak somewhere in the cooling system. Find out why it is low. It should not be leaking ever or getting low.
yeah, go back to the place and run up one side of the counter and down the managers ther side
Don't go back to the same shop.go to another and don't mention any thing I don't think your car is broken.ask the new mechanic why is overheating?.might be a loose vac um hose ,a faulty radiator cap. etc.. should be something simple. really not a big deal.

but also simple the shop You went is a filthy one.
Yes if everything was fine before you can. The oil change has nothing to do with overheating. They had drain the Radiator and did not fill it back up. Take back to them and get them to fix it for free.
yes.... if they did not take a 2nd look to make sure the oil plug is not on right, or they did not really change the items you paid for... yes.. take you care to a diffrent car care center, ask them to give your care a onec over...see if they changed you filter and oil (color of oil will tell) and see if the oil can filter on the bottom is real dirty if it is it was never changed... i always mark my air and oil filter with a little %26quot;x%26quot; mark and then check to see if it's still there after %26quot;they claim%26quot; to have changed it
No, there are several issues at play that could have caused your car to %26quot;boil over%26quot; that the oil change place could not have detected. You could have had a stuck thermostat or taken damage to your radiator. These issues couild have shown the car to be a proper levels the day of the change but overheat today.
Can you prove that they didn't fill it?? If it was already low when you took it in for the service, how do you know that it didn't just get low AGAIN after they filled it??

Sounds like your car needs more repairs than are available at the oil change place!!
Sounds like they screwed up. But ultimately theres nothing you can do.

It is just one of those things. They may have know what they were doing and did it on propose. I can't beleive they shorted you 2 quarts of oil and that made your car overheat. Were these illegal aliens working on your car? Maybe you should report them to homeland securtity.

Sound like a much bigger issue going on here.
Based upon the information you stated above, I would have to say they are totally responsible. I would read the fine print very carefully on the document(s) you signed. If they check all fluids than it is their responsibility to either inform you of low coolant, or to correct the issue and charge you for it. Either way, it seems they neglected to maintain the level of service they are bound to provide, based upon the documents signed. Talking to a lawyer is probably the best way to go. Hope this helps.
Yes you can, but they will give you 1000 excuses and reasons as to why they are not responsible. If your car has a noticeable leak in the coolant system, then the fight is over, they win. But if your car does not have a leak and the coolant level was down because of normal wear and tear, and they claim what you stated, then they are liable for the damage. It all depends on what type of person the manager is and the reputation of the company. A large company will work with you more than the little shop down the block. Also, it depends on your stick ability to have them pay and what you can prove to them to show that they neglected their responsibilities.Be very nice at first, but let them know nicely that you expect them to pay for the damage.....KECK
Good luck, as you will need it. Don't expect much help here, even if you get a lawyer.

How long it takes takes to change the car oil if you're using the Synthetic one?

I plan to buy a car that use Synthetic oil.
How long it takes takes to change the car oil if you're using the Synthetic one?
Good synthetic oils - Amsoil, Royal Purple, or Red Line. Use good Filters like Wix, Napa Gold, Purolator brand - Pure One filters, Baldwin, Amsoil, and Hastings.

Stay away from Fram, or Supertech filters.
How long it takes takes to change the car oil if you're using the Synthetic one?
    same time
1 any car can use syntetic oil

    2 takes same time

    geeeze
Any car will take synthetic oil. You just dump a gallon of the synthetic stuff in rather than conventional when doing an oil change. No magic or mystery to it.
Are we talking change intervals or how long the oil change itself takes?

For intervals, usually I say suggest in following the owner's manual but if your car is out of warranty, you can probably go at least 5,000 miles on a good synthetic oil.

For the time it actually takes to change the synthetic motor oil, same time, the steps are the same.

I own a 1997 Nissan Maxima. Sometimes when I turn my car on in the mornings it will squeel for a moment. Then if its cold and I turn my heater on it starts to squeel again very loud. It sounds like you have both a bad power steering belt and alternatorbelt, so I would change all belts. You loosen off the adjustment bolt or idler pulley, take out old belts, put in new, and retighten pulley or adjuster. good luck
sounds like you should replace your belt tensioner.
since it squeals when you turn the steering then it sounds like the power steering belt. just tell them the year, make and model of car and they will know what you need.

Could a change of car battery possibly affect AM radio reception?

I had the battery changed on my '96 Explorer last week, from an Interstate to a Motorcraft. Maybe it's my imagination or some other problem but I've noticed a tremendous increase in static while listening to may favorite local AM talk-radio station.

Any possibility that the change of brand could be the cause? Thanks!
Could a change of car battery possibly affect AM radio reception?
Sometimes a mechanic will forget to re-attach the 'static suppressors' that are tied into the hot (+) circuit or remove them. This causes the spark sound on an AM radio.

Chances are they were part of the old battery's wires, and got tossed. If they are gone, you can pick these up at any auto parts place.

In some vehicles it is simply a capacitor tied between the body of the car and the 'hot side' of the battery
Could a change of car battery possibly affect AM radio reception?
i just got new alternator and my radio now sucks...id think battery has no effect but who knows,,,i dont
It is far more likely that the installation is the problem. Check to see that everything is tight you may need new leads to the battery terminals. Doubtful that it is the brand.
ive heard of that happening before... If someone else changed your batt....maybe they put it on backwards for asec! check the fuses
no it shouldn't matter on the type of battery. check your antenna connection or the back of your deck

but the changeover of the battery won't affect the radio

Can I change my car aerial from electric to fixed?

My car is a Mazda 323 F, year 1998. The aerial is on the rear wing of the car. Most of the replacements I have seen seem to be for the roof.
Can I change my car aerial from electric to fixed?
    You can change the existing aerial to fixed without buying any accessories or a new one, and you don't have to go to a shop to do that; disconnect it from the power source from the trunk, remove the cover off the small electric motor and remove or cut the retractable spring (most are built from plastic) and you will be able to manually extend or retract your aerial anytime (like when you go to a car wash);

    Good luck!!!
Can I change my car aerial from electric to fixed?
YES YOU CAN. A MECHANIC CAN ADVISE YOU THE COSTS
I am positive you can do that with an aftermarket antenna. I am wondering why you would want to do that? Electric antennas offer you a little protection from those people who would want to break off antennas for fun.
    yes you can

I suggest you get one that can be unscrewed.

Otherwise you may lose it next time you put your car through the car wash.

  • Can you change vehicle on a car insurance policy?

My car has been written off and i have jus got a new car, can i change the vehicle on my existing policy?
Can you change vehicle on a car insurance policy?
You not only can.....You are required to. How do expect the insurance company to know that you got a different car and insure that different car if you don't notify them?
Can you change vehicle on a car insurance policy?
sure - just ring them and tell them the new car details.
The policy ceased to exist when the car was written off so no as there is no policy to change it on
Yes but you're premium will go up or down depending on the quality of the car.

Assuming your new car is better than you're last one, you'll have to pay a bit more towards your insurance. Let them know. You won't be covered unless you do.
sure change car change insurance just a phone cal away
to all above NO. you could have any unused policy added on to reduce the cost of a new policy
yes you can though you might have to pay a wee bit more...
No you cannot, you would have to start a new policy, so the best thing to do is compare your insurance to get the best prices, try theycompare.co.uk
Yes. Just call them, or pay a visit to your insurance agent. If you call, you will need to have the VIN handy. The VIN should tell them everything they need to know, but they may ask you for a few other details.
Yes just ring your Insurance Company with the details of your new vehicle - if there is any difference in Premium they will notify you.
I have no idea why anyone who answers %26quot;no%26quot; to this question is even answering questions in the insurance section... The OP asked a question because she doesn't know the answer and that's completely fair and understandable. But I would hope people answering questions in this section actually have some knowledge of the topic, which anyone who answered %26quot;no%26quot; obviously does not.

The insurance follows the vehicle but the policy is tied to you, so the answer is yes. You can simply call your insurance company with the VIN of your new car handy and they will remove the old car and attach the new one. They should discuss the coverage options with you in case the new car's coverage would be more appropriate at a different level than what you carried on your previous car.
Yes. Talk to your insurance company and they will make the change. it may cost you and there may also be additional premium to take you to the end of the year, after which if the accident was your fault the premium will go up.

Note of caution some companies will say that as your car has been written off the insurance has been completed and you will have to buy a new one. I do not think many UK companies do this now but some will.
Of course. Just call your current agent and provide them with the new vehicle information. Make sure you have the new vehicles VIN# ready when you call. Let them know you will be replacing the existing vehicle on the policy with the new one. That should take care of it!

Depending on the replacement vehicle you have chosen, your premium is subject to change.
absolutely, do it as of date new vehivle was aquired to avoid lapse.
Of course-call them with the new details.

The premium will go up or down accordingly.

What should be the oil change frequency if the car is used 3750 miles per year?

Yes, that is 3.75K miles. I am looking at this car to buy which has been driven at an average of 3.75K miles per year for the last 8 years. The owner has been getting the oil changed every year. Which turns out to be about every 3K mile, regular prescribed oil change interval. But on the other hand it is a loooong time between oil changes.

I want to know if this may have damaged the engine in any way? Is there a good test I can get done before purchasing the car that can give me some confidence level?

Quick answers will be appreciated as I have to finalize the deal tomorrow.

By the way, the car is 1999 Infiniti I30. Lived all its life in San Francisco, CA.
What should be the oil change frequency if the car is used 3750 miles per year?
you should do it at least every six months. The oil companies tell you every 3000 miles or 3 months. That is too soon. I tell my customers to do it at 5000 miles and or no longer that 6 months. You get a lot of moisture built up in an engine and you should not go a full year. there is no shelf life for oil like the one person said. But that is unopened new oil. Once that oil is dumped into a crankcase and ran through the engine then yes there is a shelf life for it. That shelf life is 5000 miles or 6 months. Same thing for canned food. It can sit for ever in a cupboard but once opened it has to be refrigerated and used by the date on can. Same thing for oil.
What should be the oil change frequency if the car is used 3750 miles per year?
Thanks everyone for chipping in! I finally bought that car after getting it inspected by AAA. They said everything looks fine! I am enjoying my new (used) car! Thanks!

    every six months
    Every three months .
every three months or three thousand miles because oil attracts moisture. chances are no damage is done to the oil
Every 3 months. Slow down. Take it to a mechanic before you sign on the dotted line. What type of oil is used? That is very important.

    Best wishes.
Depends a lot on how it was driven. Fairly long trips, or just short around town excursions that never warmed it up properly and left contaminants in the oil?

Under 'normal%26quot; driving conditions change every 3 to 5k miles, or every three months, which ever comes first. Dusty conditions, pulling a trailer, mountain driving, you would change more often.

Got a good mechanic? Have him run a quick compression check to see how it holds up there, if there is wear in the rings it will show up pretty quick.
since your in the city look at the color, if its black it needs to be changed more often because theres alot of engine running and not alot of wheel motion. if its honey colored or light brown its ok. for 3k miles a year i would recommend every 6 months. however synthetics last longer,if it was used then it wont break down . ask if it was used or not.
It should be fine. Once you purchase the vehicle, change the oil right away with the manufactures recommended oil. Then keep it up at 3k miles and/or twice a year, whichever is more frequent. I'm confidant no harm was done, and I own a used car lot.
there is NO shelf life for oil....if there were, all of your retailers would be throwing away a lot of oil every three months....depending on the year of the veh, most oil changes are three month-three thousand miles....the three month thingy is purely for reminders...3k is what you are looking for.....a lot of your newer veh are 5M-5K
every three months sounds better if that car isn't being driven that much.
Remember oil that sit for extended periods gets cold and sluggish and old/cold oil can leave crud particles within the valves and other engine parts. The odds that the oil has degraded or hurt the engine is slim to none, but I would recommend that you take the car for a fast and hard run on the interstate. You're going to have to heat that engine up and break away the crud particles and with your regular oil changes (3k) you will remove any hazards that could potential harm the engine or cause poor performance.
NO NOT DAMAGED JUST FLUSH THE ENGINE OUT AND CHANGE THE OIL EVERY 3-4 MONTHS OR EVERY 3000 MILES OR WHICH EVER COMES FIRST THAT WILL TAKE CARE OF IT MY FRIEND , TAKE CARE
Being a SF car, no harm done. All my cars were Chevrolet's or Buicks and were only driven 2000 to 5000 per year.with the oil and filter change always at least once in spring and once in fall (6 month cycle). Most of the vehicles were 15 to 25 years old before selling.
i own a repair shop, and that hasn't hurt it any at all i change mine once a year sine it was new ,and its 11 years old now,and in perfect condition, that's not even a factor in this case oil doesn't get hurt by just being there unless it been driven a lot once a year was fine for the way he drove it so it shouldn't be hurt at all,he was smart he changed it only when he needed to change it,so it will be fine ,if you don't but it,,your missing out on a real good buy,on a car,,,good luck,i hope this help.s,,,PS do your self a favor,,don't even try and flush the engine out on this car,,it don't need it,,good luck.
Sorry dodge man, but I have to say used oil will hurt it if left for a long time. Sulfer from the combustion mixes with condensation to form sulfuric acid in small amounts. every 3000 miles or 3 months, whichever comes first.
Many factors go into determining the oil change intervals of vehicles. This is why it is recommended to follow the mfgr. recommended change interval. Any Nissan dealer should be able to provide this information.

I just called a friend that owns an I30. He says the manual recommends 5-7K miles of normal driving using reqular oil. Using the recommended Synthetic oil the interval changes to 10-15 K miles. He uses the synthetic. He averages 10 - 15 k per year and receives a notice from his dealership once a year for the oil change and other services.
oil change intervals are 3000 miles OR 3 months. this is due to the breakdown of the oil once it starts being used in the engine. actually, a car that is not driven that much, the ol' %26quot;grandma drove on sundays 2 miles to church%26quot; kinda deal, is just as bad as excessive driving.

    1. the oil spends most of the time in the pan. not getting circulated regularly leaves the top end of the engine for the most part unprotected.

    2. by not driving the vehicle enough, the oil does not get hot enough to remove water vapor and contaminates from itself. water vapors will begin rust spots in the internals of the engine.

hope this helps you in your quest for answers
your oil change intervals should be based on your driving habits. I am sure that you will be driving more than the person that you are getting the car from. I reconmend pulling out the owners manual and see what it says as far as oil change intervals. As you can see from this forum that their is a lot of opinions here on this subject. If you do what anyof them tell you and you blow your motor up I am sure that they will not help you in paying to replace your motor. Pull out the owners manual and you will not go wrong. Good luck.
the manufactory recommends every 3000 miles.
Moisture and condensation build up in the engine with the nice cool nights and warm days. Change it at least every 3000 miles if you have a lot of short distance driving, long idle times, and heavy stop and go traffic. Compression tests are the simplest way to find mechanical failure in the cylinders but don't show damage to the crankshaft or rod and main bearings if you have excessive moisture build up.

Do they make converters that change a car adapter to a regular AC input?

I know they make adapters that allow you to plug regular AC adapters into your car via adapter, but do they make the reverse? I have a car adapter for my portable DVD player but need an AC adapter %26amp; don't want to buy a whole other adapter.
Do they make converters that change a car adapter to a regular AC input?
Yes, they do. I'd search google for %26quot;AC to cigarette lighter adaptor%26quot; and check out the amazon links. It'll run you between 5 and 20 dollars.
Do they make converters that change a car adapter to a regular AC input?
Yes, it's called an AC/DC converter.

How can I change rims on a car with lug nut locks?

I recently purchased a used car, and I'd like to change the brakepads. However, I found that there are lug nut locks on the wheels and no key. Can anyone suggest anything to get the locks off? Would a repair shop be able to help me with this?
How can I change rims on a car with lug nut locks?
Mike R hit on the head...take a slight bigger socket and pound it on and use a breaker bar. No auto parts store is going to have the %26quot;key%26quot; to that lock...especially if it came from a dealership. Snap-on and Matco both make sockets for this purpose..but expect to pay around $30 for it.
How can I change rims on a car with lug nut locks?
There are kits you can buy that have the keys for rims. This way you wont have to go to a shop every time you have to take your wheel off. Try you local auto parts store, and if they do not have it then they could probably order it.
Take a socket that is just slightly larger than the locking nut and tap it on with a hammer, then use a breaker bar or large ratchet to break them loose. You run the risk of breaking the socket so don't use an expensive one.
you have to find the attachment to unlock it like auto zone or advance should have it or u might even have to special order it!!! a repair shop should be able to do it!!!

How often should I change my car oil?

I own a 2007 Ford Five Hundred SEL. Currently I've been changing the oil with 5W-30 Mobil oil every 5,000 miles.

Is that okay or should I go back to the rule of thumb and change it every 3,000 miles?
How often should I change my car oil?
This question has been booted around since oil change places started popping up in the '80s.

If you own a vehicle that is used every day, is driven hard, or in dirty conditions (such as a taxi or limousine ) then yes I would suggest you go back to changing it every 3000 miles.

If you just use it for your work commute, and or trips back and forth to the grocery store, then 5000 miles is fine.

If your car is still under warranty then I would suggest you look at what they suggest and follow that rule. Don't want to give them any reason to void the warranty.
How often should I change my car oil?
look in your owners manual that will tell what the manufacture recommended oil change intervals are
I like to think of a car like a puppy. while your car is still fairly new you can go longer without changing your oil as often but once you start reaching 100,000 miles you should start changing it every 3000 or when you start losing performance. I ran about 4 miles a day with my dog but now i just take it out for a walk.
As long as you don't make a lot of short trips and you don't live in an area that's particularly dusty, then you can go 5,000 miles.
Oil is cheap. Go back to 3000. And have it done by a mechanic at an independent shop that does under car stuff. He'll do it for about $32.00. Changing it yourself w/filter costs you about $16.00. So for $16.00 more you get to have your car go up on a lift where you can check everything under your car and ask as many questions as you can squeeze in before he replaces the pan plug.
synthetic - 5,000 miles or so

    conventional- 3,000 miles or so

if you bought the car used and don't know the history of the oil changes do it every 2k miles for 2 or 3 oil changes then go to conventional or synthetic
    continue using Mobil 1

    change it every 3000 miles

its a holden vy ute 2002 v6.... iv allreddy put rims and a boady kit on it with neons all over it i dont wanna sell it the only thing is i would like to be manual do u no how much i would b lookin at to change it? cheers
How much does it cost to change a car from automatic to manual?
hey to answer your question simply about 5grand i've answered one of your questions before about your car, you'll need a box clutch kit, dual mass fly wheel, stick, pedal set up, tailshaft and you'll need to tell the ECU through the TECH2 that it's a manual. Look it's not going to do anything to ya car mate you'll just burn clutches out sounds like your a hoon. To tell ya the truth the Auto's go better than the manuals as in a manual you have a fly wheel and that transfer of torque through the crank is not really good for them ecotech motors on start up as you'll hear it as a loud chirp through the tensioner on your drive belt. In auto's you have a torque convertor and pressure plate which takes up this torque before it goes through the crankshaft. Ya silly if ya do i only recommend this for GEN3 V8's. That's what ya should've got in the first place buddy.
How much does it cost to change a car from automatic to manual?
it will cost you more than the car is worth you would be better off starting over again with a new car
You would be looking at a few grand for a gBox, but its not that easy. You will possibly have to change the wiring to the gbox as well as change the computer to work with a manual box, you may also have to get the tail shaft shortened of lengthened. Not to mention the hassel of installing an extra peddle.

It is a big job even on less complicated older cars. Being a fairly new car i would look at taking your mods off it and selling it as a standard car and buying a manual ute. There is a fairly big selection of manual utes around, (see carsales.com.au), and put your mods back on that ute. It may cost u a few grand sell and buy a new ute but, by a very very long shot the easiest way, and may still end up costing you less than buying gbox's and computers and auto elecrics ect...
mainly it is a self shopjob, it takes a little labor boring holes, clutch cylinder hookup. changing out steering column if applicable, installing clutch pedal, if bracket exeist under dash. most us cars have the brackets and firewall mountings for both auto and manual. but i would not know about yours.

How to Change a Car Title with 2 Owners Listed?

I bought a car with a co-signer. The car is paid off and I now want to sell the car to Carmax. They require that both parties listed be present. My co-signer lives in another state. Is there a way to transfer solely to me? The title list our as Jane Doe or James Doe. Does he still need to be present to sell?
How to Change a Car Title with 2 Owners Listed?
You can (I am pretty sure) get a signed release of interest. It will need to be notarized and check with your local title laws to be sure, but they should be able to quickly answer your question.

What is the name of the Oil Change shop where you stay in the car while they change your oil?

I can't remember the name of the oil shop i went to once, where i had my oil change and i stayed in the car.

    Penzoil 10 minute oil change?

They bring you coke, coffee, and stuff too.

    I think it's Pep Boys...but I'm not 100% sure.
Oil Can Henry's insists that you stay in the vehicle. I'm sure a few other places also have you stay in the vehicle.

How often should I change my car's battery?

Mine is already 4 years old, is it time to change it?
How often should I change my car's battery?
I'd say whenever it stops holding charge (need %26quot;jumps%26quot; constantly).
How often should I change my car's battery?
batterys usually last from 3 to 5 years so when it dies replace it
There is no exact time on how long a battery will last. You can check it by using a Carbon Pile Tester.
when it dies or won't hold a charge it's time to replace it.

    Change car door handles yourself?

I would like to change my factory installed car door handles to chrome ones. How difficult will this be? Do I have to take the door apart? Or should I just let the dealer do it.
    Change car door handles yourself?
depends on the make and model and year of your vehicle. Most times you will need specialized tools to remove the handles and window winders if you do not have electric windows. If I were you I would set aside a dry area and most of the day to do this job( as you have never done it before). I would also look for a repair book from my local automotive store ( Chilton is the most well known brand of auto repair manuals for the average person doing it themselves) If you do decide to go ahead with the change over I would suggest having one of these to guide you.

    cheers
    Change car door handles yourself?
I would let the dealer do this as it involves far more than you want to get into. And on the new cars it is so easy to break a wire and this just creates move work.I took body %26amp; fender with my my bother-law and he does this type work .It just wasn't my cup of tea.I still help from time to time, but do not care for it.
If there are no electronics that come along with the door handle then it is relatively easy to change them. It's basically common sense and taking the inside part of the door off

I want to change my car engine oil . Please let me know know what is the best choicefor my car is( Toyota Camy 1992).I live inWashington DC

I want to change my car engine oil?
Refer to your car owners manual, it have recommendation as to what kind of oil and what type you need to use.

Also in the owners manual, it have section on how to change your engine oil, the procedures.
I want to change my car engine oil?
if you have been using a synthetic stay with it - if not the 10w30 - works ...
if your toyota has more 100k miles dont use multigrade oil, sintetic high miles 40
Make sure you can get to the oil filter. You will also need an oil filter wrench. On one of my vehicles it is almost impossible to get to the filter, so I take that in to get an oil change. The others are easy to get to the oil filter, and I do it. It only takes about 10 to 15 minutes and saves you 40 to 50 bucks. Good luck. Don't worry (my opinion) about the oil. 10-30, 10-40. I know there are car perfectionists who will argue over what is best. A 92 Camry, use whatever. They are good engines (usually) and can take it.
I've had good luck with Castrol. I've been running it for years. Stay away from Quaker State. Mobil One is good but a little costly. If you've just picked this car up you might want to add some oil cleaner to it before you change the oil? There is an additive that you add to the old oil to thin out any deposits that have built up inside the engine and oil pan. You just add it in and warm up the engine for about 15 min. DON'T drive the car with it in it. After the engine is warmed up and shut off, all you need to do is drain it out and replace the filter and add in the new oil.
    by the change oil machine.
Castrol Magnatec I found to be excellent 156,000 miles in a Ford, which I gave my nephew when I came here, it's still going strong.
I'd use a 5w-30 in any good name brand.....this means quaker state, and pennzoil.... the old wives tale of them forming sludge is pretty stupid.... I remember one guy ran his chevy truck over one million, on pennzoil.... pennzoil owns quaker state.... they are BOTH owned by shell. btw, I know many others that use nothing but these two oils, many miles... little to no varnish, no sludge...

Just use a name brand 5w-30.... synthetic in that old of a car may be asking for trouble, synthetic's in a already leaking car (I don't know about yours if its leaking) or damaged seals that conventional oil WILL no show through, might worsen with synthetics.... synthetics are however safe to mix with conventional, and engine seals (they don't eat em) engines raised up on say mobil one, don't leak... b tw, castrol syntec is a group 3 hydrocracked petroleum, good oil! but overpriced, its priced right near mobil one prices, Mobil ones a true pao syn. Pennzoil has a new syn out using a eop base.. called pennzoil platinum.

And don't use flushes, most quick flushes are just kerosene.... these don't clean all that well.... but may knock big chunks of sludge loose and clog the oil pump...... and don't use fram oil filters.....overpriced cheap quality. cut one open to see for yourself......

Can you change a car from a manual to automatic transmission in a car?

I have a crashed a car (96 chevy cavalier) beyond repair of the body and it was an automatic (the engine in not damaged) my dad was going to buy a used car (98 chevy cavalier) with the engine shot (its a manual) would it be possible for him to take the engine out of our current one and put it in the one we could buy even though the one we would buy is a standard?
Can you change a car from a manual to automatic transmission in a car?
Yes, you would have to change a host of things. Pedal set, guage cluster, ecu, various odds and ends.

IMO, it would be cheaper and less headache to purchase a running car without intentions of swapping anything.
Can you change a car from a manual to automatic transmission in a car?
if it is the same engine then its easy. just swap the flexplate for the clutch assembly. Get a new clutch/pressure plate, and throwout bearing. there was one year of cavalier that had a wet clutch inside the tranny. Avoid this one. not sure on year.
    sure
Unless you have a lot of mechanical experience, don'tt go there !
It is possible but it depends on the car and parts to determine how much you will have to change. If you're simple swapping the engine it should be easier than swapping the transmissions.

How do you know when to change your car timing belt?

I have a Fiat punto 2002 that wont start. everytime i try starting it, it wont start. It sounds like the fan just switches on. I took it to a garage. They have said the timing belt has gone but i dont see how it is because it has not snapped.

The car mileage is only 28k.
How do you know when to change your car timing belt?
i change my belts on every car i buy...yours is missing teath at the bottom....the crank spinns but the reat of the engine stays still...thats not the worst of it..your head/valves could be damaged....
How do you know when to change your car timing belt?
You check your owner's manual. Unless something is defective, the belt should be replaced at the manufacturer-specified interval.

Even in the 70s, Fiats had longer timing belt intervals than that. Most modern engines have intervals of at LEAST 60,000 miles, and many are over 100,000.

If your timing belt was out, it would probably do more than %26quot;sound like the fan switches on.%26quot; Depending on what type of engine it has (interference or non-interference) it would either just not work, but should at least turn over, or you'd hear the pistons banging into the valves, pretty much destroying the cylinder head.

Oh, and the timing belt is not a belt that you can see on the outside of the engine. Being so critical to the function and health of the engine, it is encased in its own little cover. Almost every engine that has a timing belt does it like this. You have to actually remove the timing belt cover to see the state of the timing belt. What you're looking at is probably just an alternator, power steering, air conditioning, and possibly fan belt.
Take it to a different mechanic.

Maybe when they said it has gone they meant its worn down too much? I don't know. Mine snapped on me in my first car. I was driving home from work in the middle of winter and had to sit in my car for an hour till the tow truck came. I was on the highway but on a bridge thing (overpass?), my car just all of a sudden quit. I was lucky I was at the top though becuase I was able to coast down the rest of the overpass and get off on the offramp.

The only thing though is when it went it snapped and wrecked my pistons or something. So the whole engine had to be replaced.

Man 28k, sounds low for a timing belt. Yea, I'd get a second opinion. Good luck!

Edit: To the first answers comment: %26quot;If the engine WON'T turn over when you turn the key, its a battery, starter or ignition switch problem.%26quot; I don't think this is true, because when mine snapped it was like my whole car just died. Nothing worked when trying to turn it over.
Try taking it to another garage if you dont think its a proper estimate. You would have to take the valve cover off and check the valve train and the crank position to see if everything is lined up properly. but first I would: 1)Check ignition with spark tester inline with plug 2)Check fuel injection system by spraying intake with starter fluid, if it trys to run, something is wrong with fuel injection system.
The teeth can sheer off the belt, so it isn't snapped but not working.

    Its easy to check.

Take the cam belt cover off (plastic cover)

Turn the engine over, the belt should move as the engine turns over. If it doesn't move when the engine moves, its lost some of its teeth,

Big job to fix as the head may need to come off.

Cam belts should be changed at 50k or 80k or 100k+ it depends on the engine and the type of driving.

    I bet the 28K is 128K on a 2002

If the engine WON'T turn over when you turn the key, its a battery, starter or ignition switch problem.
rubber timing belts either wear out by mileage or by age. its only 28k but its almost 7 years old.

Now i dont know why you even mentioned a fan but you must have had it towed to the garage since it would not start. And did you really see the timing belt?? Because it is located behind a metal shroud,,,,it is not the belt that wraps around the various pulleys on the front of the engine.
The timing belt is usually time, as well as mileage related? And fiat is 5 years or 48,000 milesIf it wont start how did you manage totake it to the garage? The belt may have stripped the teeth and still be in place? Its sounds to me that the problem is the timing belt with the symptoms you are describing?
You need to remove the timing belt covers and try turning over the engine with the key. If the cam and the crank both turn, then the belt has not gone. If however when you remove the cover you find that the belt has snapped then its already to late!

    Ja.
Look at the belt closely for cracks. Those cracks hinder the grip of the belt which may cause either slipping or loss of torque during starting.
if you are sure its not snapped, check it has not slipped due to teeth missing. but from what you describe it does not sound like its the belt.

  • How long should you go without getting an oil change in your car?

First off I know I should get my oil changed every 3,000 miles. What I want to know is if it will mess up your car if you go too long without getting the oil changed although you check the oil and keep it filled to the right amount.
How long should you go without getting an oil change in your car?
Yes it will mess up your car... over time the oil will %26quot;break down%26quot; causing it to loose it's lubricity... it keeps getting thinner, and thinner, and well as circulating debris, and contaminates.

Not changing your oil... leads to massive amounts of Sludge!

Just change your oil as recommended... or as close to it as you can.

    - Good Luck!
How long should you go without getting an oil change in your car?
the other point about checking your oil is TO SEE HOW DIRTY IT IS. it''s the muck left behind that ruins the engine.

THAT'S WHY YOU CHANGE BOTH THE OIL AND THE FILTER. you may never have to add oil, but the oil will always get dirty. There's an old commercial where the mechanic says YOU CAN PAY ME NOW, OR YOU CAN PAY ME LATER. paying now is a lot cheaper.

oil change $20.00 bucks plus filter or $4,000.00 engine.

    be wise
Changing the oil is the most important thing you can do to extend engine life, and it's $20.
    I wouldn't go over 3500 miles.
My owner's manual for my 2007 Aveo says that if I drive mostly on highways (no dirt roads) then I can go 7,000 miles between oil changes. Read the owners manual, if you still have it. Mine also says that if I do mostly city driving or dirt roads on a regular basis to automatically get the oil changed around 3,000 miles.

    Hope that helped.
Depends how old is your car. But 6000 miles is the max. I my self drove my car around 8000 miles without oil change and without adding extra oil to the motor. The motor was totally out of oil when i got the oil change and now it makes a weird noise every time i rave. Even though the oil is ful but now there is a noise coming from the eingine. So better if you get your oil change right around 3000 miles or worst come worst as people say, before 6000 miles
Yes it will mess your car up, just try to keep it close to 3000 miles
3000 is a good number, I had a dodge 600 in high school and I let it go to 12000 miles, guess what happend-it died. Since then I have always gone no more than 3500 miles between changes, my Mitsubishi Mirage has 160K on it and my Mazda MX3 has 245000 on it! regular oil changes are well worth the money.
Yes you can do extensive and costly damage...much cheaper and cost effective to perform regular maintenance.........
You can go up to 7 to 8000 k before changing oil. Make sure you check level often. Low oil WILL RUIN your engine faster than any thing!!
You should change it every 3,000 miles , unless you use synthetic oil. Not doing so will shorten the life of your car's engine. Take the cost of an oil change and divide into the cost of a new car. Oil changes are cheap.

What do I need to do to change my car from an automatic to a manual?

The Car I am trying to convert my 1996 Holden Apollo (toyota camry) from automatic to manual. I want to know what parts i need to be able to do this. I am not too concerned with cost as I am planning on keeping the car for a long time as I have already started to %26quot;do it up%26quot;.
What do I need to do to change my car from an automatic to a manual?
transmission, clutch, gearbox, new shifter inside the car and of course all of the tools/parts needed to install it.. just ask an auto mechanic shop or whoever you plan on installing it for you.... why do you want to change the tranny though?? why not just keep it auto??
What do I need to do to change my car from an automatic to a manual?
You'll need a new (standard) transmission and probably some hardware to mate it up with your engine. Talk to a few transmission shops and maybe even a toyota dealer to get a feel for cost.

A new transmission can be from 800-2000+ depending on the car.

    Hope this helps!
You'll need gearbox, clutch%26amp; brake pedals, flywheel, spigot bearing ( in the end of the crank ), gearshift, center console, drive shafts,( both ), clutch master cylinder %26amp; hydrulic lines, computer %26amp; wiring looms, and lots of spare hours, and a good repair manual. DON'T forget your sense of humor.

How often should I have my car maintenanced (oil change)? Can I just add more oil without having to change it?

I have a 2002 Odyssey and the manual says to replace the engine oil every 7,500 miles or every year.

The place where I bought the car where I do the maintenance, says to replace the oil every 3,000 miles or every 3 months.

Now I do not drive much. In eleven months, I drove 1,687 miles (an average of 35 miles a week).

I did the last maintenance last August and was supposed to do the next one last November but I did not because I drove only 500 miles in those 3 months.

Now, I just checked the oil level (first time in my life鈥ou would have been there, you would have laugh at me.) and the level is just under the lower mark.

Should I just add more oil (how much, what kind?) or do I have to have my car maintenanced so they can change the oil (after I drove 1,687 miles since my last maintenance).

Thank you in advance for any advice you may have for me.
How often should I have my car maintenanced (oil change)? Can I just add more oil without having to change it?
Go with the manual and replace the oil once a year if you don't drive over 7,500 miles, The 3000 mile oil change interval are ingrained in a lot of peoples minds from the days of sloppy V8 engines that had very poor machining tolerances. In Europe Honda recommends 15,000 km change interval thats nearly 10,000 miles. Yes you can add any brand of oil check the manual for viscosity, probably 5W30. Don't overfill over the full mark.
How often should I have my car maintenanced (oil change)? Can I just add more oil without having to change it?
Follow the owners manual to be sure you don't void any warranties.

%26quot;replace the engine oil every 7,500 miles or every year%26quot; ... that should fine.

Just make sure you insist on high quality synthetic motor oil and use only the SAE weight that is recommended in your owner's manual.

Check your oil levels at least once a month. Don't let oil levels go low but take care not to overfill. Usually one quart is all it takes to get from the low mark back to centerline.
yea you should change it like every 3000 miles because its just good for the engine. you dont need to run it too push it too far past that
change the oil every 7500 if you have a leak in between the oil changes add oil but get the leak checked out. your engine needs a new filter and oil every 7500
Oil is designed to reduce friction from sand and dirt. The more friction, the more wear and tear inside of the engine. Running on low oil or dirty oil causes more friction. It's like running sandpaper on the inside of your engine. Replace it every 3000 miles.

Old, stale oil is also hard on an engine because it is corrosive. Chane the oil and check it frequently - its the main ingredient that keeps a car alive.
depending on how and where you drive and what kind of oil you use they are bright 3000 miles is good or about four times a yr something you can remember summer winter spring and fall
Since you dont seem to drive the car that much, I wouldn't worry about changing the oil until it turned black. (This means the oil is starting to lose its protective qualities. As for how much, if it is at the lower mark of your dipstick, your probably about a quart low. The best advice is to pour a little in then keep checking the oil til it gets to the full mark. Allow a couple of minutes for the oil to drain down. MOST importantly, you DO NOT want to overfill.
Follow the owner's manual. At the very least, you need to change the oil and filter once a year. As oil ages, heats up and cools, it builds up sludge. The sludge will block the circulation of the oil in the engine and cause engine failure.

To replace your engine will cost you $1,500 - $2,000 or more so it's best to fork out a little for an oil change. 7500 miles sounds high to me. The owner's manual shows 3,600 to 7,200 miles depending on driving conditions. I'd go more like every 4,000 miles or once a year.
    Do what the manual says!

The oil companies used to say change oil every 3000 miles, but that is old School because Oils are much much better these days, AND there is a push now for oil conservation. There is NO need for Synthetic oils. they cost 3 times as much as regular oil anyway!

Your mechanic wants to see you every 3000 miles so he can make more money!

Dateline NBC did an actual road test on NYC taxicabs to see how long it took for the oil to go bad...It was 7500 miles!!!!
With the mileage you are doing an annual oil change will be fine, but dont stop there , have all the servicing schedule seen to, cars deteriorate with age as well as miles. Do this and a car like your honda should give you years of good service.
    every 3,000 miles
Every 3,000 miles or three months is the generally accepted oil change maintenance time. Some oils will alow you 7,500, and some synthetics can even give you 25,000 miles. Even if you only drive 500 miles in three months, the oil should still be changed because the chemicals and additives that protect your engine break down and no longer perform the way they should.

Is it okay to get an oil change for your car once a year if you drive about 2,500 miles a year?

I have a 97' nissan that I only really use to drive to the train station on the way to work or to stop at a local store. I never drive more than 3,000 miles in a year with this car. Is it okay to get an oil change just once a year? If not why not? Please give me a link or explain your answer either way. Thanks!
Is it okay to get an oil change for your car once a year if you drive about 2,500 miles a year?
Question. Does your driving ALWAYS get the oil and engine up to OPERATING temperatures for at LEAST 15 minutes? If yes, then should be ok, NO, change at LEAST every six months. Problem is that if the oil is not hot enough to boil off the condensation or water that WILL form, you will damage the engine due to water in the oil.

Check the repair cost of that foreign car engine you decide if oil is cheaper.

    Good Luck
Is it okay to get an oil change for your car once a year if you drive about 2,500 miles a year?
If that is the case I would change it every 2000 miles It never hurt to change oil in a car or truck Take care of your car and it will take care of you, good luck
Johnny, Oil changes are sceduled according to time and mileage. The more short trips you take (just to train station and back each day) the more often an oil change is required. Condensation (water vapor) is the major culprit here. Your owners manual should explain the rules for your car regarding short trips and change intervals. I have two cars that each go less than 5,000 miles a year and I change the oil every 2 1/2 months.
My dad and I have a 85' Corolla that we use maybe under 1000 miles a year. He changes it once a year. The oil change is not really the issue, letting the car run and driving it a few miles per month is the key. As long as you drive it a few times a month your ok. Oil change stations say 3000miles or 6months just as their advisory. If your REALLY worried than, throw some synthetic oil in the car then. Consumer report did a test explaining that synthetic oil can run for 10,000 miles. Not sure what month for consumer report.
That depends on how far the train station is. If you're only driving a mile or two, it's really hard on the oil because you don't get it hot enough to burn off the water it's absorbed. It will also rot out your exhaust system. If you drive it far enough to get the engine and exhaust hot for a while, the oil will probably be OK for a year.

How to change ownership of car?

I have bought a car around 1 month ago but i didn't change the ownership of the car now i want to sell it bc need money do i need to change the ownership before selling and do i need the orignal owner with me for the procedure in jpj.or i can sell the car without changing the ownership.
How to change ownership of car?
If you have bought a car and have not registered it, and the previous owner having sold the car but not registered the change of ownership within 14 days, both of you have committed an offence... In your case, the buyer would want the car to be in your name, as otherwise it would be like you have stolen the car. For change of ownership, both buyer ans seller need to be at JPJ, but this is usually not followed if you use the services of a %26quot;runner%26quot;. I would suggest that you first transfer the car to your name, and then you can make a proper sale.....

  • Do i have to change the oil in my car?

i changed my car's oil two only months ago, but every time i turne my car on it says chang oil, but this sign goes away in 2 minutes!

do i still need to change the oil again even though i just changed it?
Do i have to change the oil in my car?
Car companies do program your car to turn the light on every 3000 miles, it's because people are human and we do forget things like that. If you've driven more than 3000 miles since your last oil change then yes you should have it changed unless you are using Ammsoil or a synthetic oil. If you haven't driven but say 1000 miles then I would say someone forgot to reset the engine oil life button.
Do i have to change the oil in my car?
you probily forgot to reset the oil change moniter
You might have a bad sensor, try looking into that first..otherwise the rule of thumb is change your oil every 3000 miles
It depends on how many miles you have driven, not the amount of time between changes. 3,000 miles is pretty standard for an oil change although there are engine lubricants on that market that will go longer than this.
no! i think the car companies do that. they program the car to do that so you think you have to go to the delaership to get a tune up or wat ever. there is no problem, it happens in my dads car all the time. i think you could turn that little light off by putting the car on nuetral and holding the milage button... i think

How difficult is it to change a car (1996 Honda Accord) into one which would run on fryer fat?

I'm interested in pursuing an alternative fuel method and saw this in a movie and was wondering how difficult and expensive it is to convert a gas running car to one using fryer fat. Would a Diesel car be better to convert?
How difficult is it to change a car (1996 Honda Accord) into one which would run on fryer fat?
If you wanted to run a car on cooking oil, you would have to start with a diesel engine. To my knowledge, the only biofuel that gasoline powered cars can run is E85 ethanol.
How difficult is it to change a car (1996 Honda Accord) into one which would run on fryer fat?
It would have to be Diesel to convert. You could convert to electric.
It wouldn't be hard at all if your car's a diesel.

Just heat the fryer fat and feed it into your engine. It's best to run for 5 to 10 minutes on diesel fuel and let the engine warm up, then switch to fry grease, then switch back to diesel for the last few minutes before you turn the engine off. But it can be done with any diesel engine.

You cannot run a gas engine on fry grease. Gas engines are very fussy about their fuel. If you don't give them what they want, they will refuse to run.
    Impossible.

Start with a diesel preferable an old diesel without a lot of pollution controls on it. Then you challenge is cleaning up the fryer fat so it doesn't clog up the fuel injectors.

Does flashing the high-beam headlights of a car change the light?

It seems that when you rapidly flash the high beams when coming near a red light it changes to green within a few seconds. Would it work like how ambulances change the lights? What do ambulances use?
Does flashing the high-beam headlights of a car change the light?
Ive seen police do it and I have tried. Typically at night when its late and no one is around the light will change right away anyhow.. I don't think i works. Plus i heard you can get a ticket.
Does flashing the high-beam headlights of a car change the light?
I don't think so. Some lights operate on pressure sensors and they are usually programed to change quicker later at night when your probably doing this. As far as ambulances go here they just blow through the red light.
Well that's supposedly how the older traffic lights used to work, you could flash your high beams repeatedly and the light would change to green. Most new traffic lights don't work like that anymore though, and for the ones that are still controlled by flashes, it will only work with the flashing lights of an emergency vehicle, which is fast enough that the average driver wouldn't be able to duplicate it exactly with flashing the high beams. I'm sure pretty sure most new traffic lights are equipped with sensors, which can be changed by an emergency vehicle sending out a signal from the vehicle itself, so the flashing lights thing won't work in most areas anymore. By the way, if the flashing lights thing does work, and you keep trying it, and one day a cop sees you and notices what your doing, you'll likely be in for a heavy fine!
once upon a time traffic lights did have a sensor on them to tell when aa automobile was pointing at it and flashing your lights would trigger it but new technology has become available. the light is now triggered by pressure or magnetic sensitive strips placed in the road. Notice the lines cut into the asphalt right before a red light. thats the strips. Ambulances don't use anythig to trip a light

How often should you change your car's engine oil?

I know someone that changes it every 3 months no matter how many miles she drives. Even after 1000 miles, she'll change it. Is she wasting her money? She drives conservatively, mild weather, normal driving conditions, etc.

    Thanks.
How often should you change your car's engine oil?
Oil starts breaking down @ 1700 miles, but breaks down a lot faster if not driven because moisture contaminates the oil and since not driven ( to remove contamination) the oil only gets worse. So no she is not wasting money, plus you cannot change your oil too much. Your are only protecting the engine that much more.
How often should you change your car's engine oil?
Which ever comes last. 12/9 I was suppose to change my oil but I have only used 1,500 miles. I spoke with my dad who was a manager of goodyear and he said that I do not need to change it until I hit 3,000 miles or even 4,000. Just always make sure there is oil in your car. That is the important part.
every 6 months or 3000 miles (which ever comes first) and the filter has to be changed every other oil change.
    3000 or 6 months..is fine,,,3 months is a waste of $...i change my oil every 5000...
The old rule of thumb has been every 3 months or 3,000 miles, whichever comes FIRST.

however, recent studies have shown that you can easily go 5,000 miles, with no time restraint and be absolutely fine.

I always go by the mileage, and have owned my car for 5 years with no major problems (and put 130,000 miles on it)
here is what I do. I use mobile 1 and fram filters, I change the oil and filter lets say at 50k then at 55k I change the filter and add a quart of new mobile 1 then at 60k I do a complete oil and filter change. I keep doing this as long as I have the car, so far I have 131k on the engine and it runs fine in fact I will be leaving on a 2k trip with it next month. Ask your dad or grandpa how often they changed oil in the 50's no one changed oil like they do now and some of those old engines are still running. The oil co's love all you oil changers. All I can say is it works for me.
The oil changing period is determined in part by where and how you drive. If the vehicle is used for only short trips and never gets warmed up then sludge will occur and you need to change it sooner. If you drive a distance where the engine gets fully warmed up and on the highway the oil burns off impurities and lasts alot longer. That said oil is cheap insurance for an expensive part of your car, the motor. If you can't always change it when you should, it's better to buy synthetic base oil when you do change it
Your owners manual will have the info.

Many cars it's like 6 or 7k miles.

Environmentally speaking, you should change it according to your owners manual.

For me, when 3k pass, i try to remember to get in for an oil change.

And like an earlier poster mentioned, be sure to keep the oil levels in the safe zone.
With modern cars and modern oil the 3,000 oil change is not necessary. I still do it on the cars I have that were built in the '70s but on newer cars I follow the manufacturers recommendations. For my '94 Honda it is 7500 miles.
    every 3 months r 3000 miles

  • Can a car fuse change cause a engine light to come on?

I have just changed my cd player in my car and I blew a 5amp fuse. I put a 10 amp fuse instead.

Now around 15 minuets after that my engine light lit up on my dashboard and it won't go off. Could this be down to the fuse?
Can a car fuse change cause a engine light to come on?
not likey but could be how to install cd player
Can a car fuse change cause a engine light to come on?
First of all if you blew a 5 amp fuse why did you put in a 10 amp fuse? you do know that the wire load for the 2 is different right? If you just change the fuse size and not the wire size you are setting yourself up for a fire. Unless you tapped into a wire you shouldn't have then the 2 wouldn't be related however you didn't say what the code is, so i can't tell you for certain. Is the car running any different? the car could have run and failed a evap test, check your gas cap make sure it is tight.
No it should not have set a code with the proper fuse replaced. But using a over size fuse can. There was a reason the fuse blow out. It was use more than the system was rated for. By using a larger fuse. You have over load that wiring set. It depend which fuse you tied into for the cd player. It depend how many amp this cd player takes. Use five amps are used for keep the computer a live when the vehicle is turned off. By adding a larger fuse. The computer could be get to means volts and amps. This will damage the computer. You need to have a computer test done. If what I have said, is true. You get a read of to much voltage or amps going to the computer. This will burn up the computer in time. There is one other thing that could take place. It could burn up the wiring and catch the vehicle on fire.
PUT THE 5 AMP FUSE BACK IN!!!!! never ever ever just put a bigger fuse in to fix a problem. youre just asking for trouble. you have a short or something somewhere. FIND IT! after you have fixed that problem, check all your wiring for your cd player, make sure you didnt splice into any wires not related to the audio system. as for the light, that short probably tripped a sensor and brought up the light. have an auto parts store or a garage run a scan tool on your car to get a code and see what is wrong.
Get that 10 amp fuse out of the fuse box and find your wiring

mistake. You should never up the fuse rating or you could wind

    up with a meltdown..

Try disconnecting your stereo , replace the 5 amp fuse and check

    your dash again..

    Something was wired improperly...

    Good Luck to you...
You have damaged some wiring and you will need a proper auto electrician to sort it for you if it is a modern car with a can-bus wiring system
it should,nt but you should,nt put a bigger fuse in because you could overload the circuit and cause a fire.

What do i need to change in my car to install a turbocharger?

i heard from someone that i need to change the manifolds, and body throttle to install a turbo on my stock car.... can someone please tell me if this is true, and i wanna know if the turbo could be harmful to the car. thx
What do i need to change in my car to install a turbocharger?
It's not as simple as just slapping on a turbo and having a turbo charged car. First, you need to find out where it's going to fit. Then you have to figure out how to cool it, since most require some means of cooling off, and you'll need to protect everything around it. Also, you will need to change your exhaust manifolds as well as your entire intake system, not just your throttle body.

In reality, you should go inside and reinforce the engine. A turbo will change the compression within the engine to a level that your engine and it's components were not meant to see, especially since this is stock....gaskets, valves, cam, etc.

I assume you think you're going to race this thing or something, or just want a faster car? Skip the trurbo. If you're asking automotive tech questions like that on Answers, then you have no idea what you're doing under the hood. I don't mean to be offensive, I'm just trying to save you a buck and the hassle of blowing up your engine for something like this.

A turbo isn't just some cheap modification like a K%26amp;N intake or a more open exhaust (both of which I'd suggest well before a turbo) and isn't typically a bolt-on application. Start with the airflow...like I said, an intake and exhaust. Then, reprogram the computer if you can, and tinker with some of the factory settings. After that, the rest of your changes will likely be internal. You can't just throw gobs of horsepower at a stock engine and expect it to hold.

    Ultimately...give up the turbo idea.
What do i need to change in my car to install a turbocharger?
Depends on the car. You will have to change your exhaust and intake systems no matter what though. As for having the specifically change the manifolds it will greatly depend on where you install the turbo. Throttle body shouldn't have to be touched though.
    Please specify the car!
    your car.
    best if you could change,

    1. cylinder head ( make sure you fit the correct gasket for the head-non turbo ones are different *take note)

    2. manifold (both inlet and exhaust)

    3. fuel injectors

    4. for best results, pistons (coz non turbo piston is higher), and normally you must wire an air flow controller unit to adjust the air and fuel for best result.

    hope it helps, Merry Christmas.

Change of kinetic energy of a car going up a hill?

A 1000 kg car drives up a hill that is 15.2 m high. During the drive, two nonconservative forces do work on the car: (i) the force of friction, and (ii) the force generated by the car's engine. The work done by friction is 鈭?.91脳105 J; the work done by the engine is 6.74脳105 J.

Find the change in the car's kinetic energy from the bottom of the hill to the top of the hill.
Change of kinetic energy of a car going up a hill?
the work energy theorem tells you that the amount of work done on an object = change in KE

work done on object = work due to friction + work due to engine + work done by gravity

    work on object = -2.91x10^5J + 6.74x10^5J-mgh

    work on object =3.83x10^5J - 1000 kg x 9.8m/s/s x 15.2m

    work on object = 3.83x10^5J-1.49x10^5J = 2.34x10^5J

and this is the change in KE

Do I need to change my car alternator?

I have a 96 Ford Bronco 5.8 liter V8. Everytime I lower my windows it sounds like my car is going to die. should i change it?
Do I need to change my car alternator?
If you want to waste your money then change your alternator. Your alternator has nothing to do with this. My first guess is your window motor is getting old and putting a lot of pull on the battery causing the alternator to work harder, putting more pull on the engine.
Do I need to change my car alternator?
I would suggest taking your bronco to a car parts store such as advance auto parts they will test your system for you usually at no charge. It could be that your battery is going bad not your alternator. If your alternator is bad the battery will usually go down and it won't crank over.

    Hope this helps.
first i would pull the door panels off and try greasing the window regulator and track and work the window up and down. if that helps great if not probably has a motor that is drawing too much. the fix is change the window motor.

  • Do I have to change plates on car if legal address is in another state?

Ok, I live in Missouri along with my mom, my dad is thinking about taking a job in florida, not sure for how long but is going to leave my mom here because my brothers are in school. Will he have to change his license plates on his car along with his driver's license?
Do I have to change plates on car if legal address is in another state?
If he is not going to claim residency in Florida then he is still a legal resident of Missouri. He would merely be working in Florida, and therefore does not need to change his plates or his drivers license. Many construction workers for example work in other states than where they live and they don't change the plates on their vehicles. Many jobs nowadays require one to relocate for a given amount of time to work, but they are not necessarily moving their permanent residency.
Do I have to change plates on car if legal address is in another state?
well if he takes up residence there even if temporarily he'll still have to notify the DMV and they'll tell him whether or not he'll need to change plates or anything. it differs state to state
you iwill have to check with florida motor vehicle, some states allow up to a certain time period of living in a different state, but usually it is your residence that determines wether you have to change your plates and the length of stay, etc.
Check with Florida DMV, but my experience has been that when one is working in another state, but maintaining a home in the legal state of residence, the tag does NOT have to be changed. (Same thing with out-of-state college students, who can matriculate anywhere and keep the car tags of their home state on their cars, even while living 9 months of the year at college.)

What your dad also needs to be aware of is that he will have to pay state taxes in Missouri even when they are not being withheld from his Florida paycheck...he can have them exempted from being paid into Florida (assuming they have a state income tax) and make quarterly payments to Missouri...take advice from someone who learned this the hard way!

How do I change the sparkplugs in my car?

I drive an '85 chrysler 5th Avenue. I'm not a total ignoramous when it comes to car maintainance. I changed the fuel filter today, and it occured to me that it's probably about time to change the spark plugs, too.

This is something I want to learn how to do for it's own sake; in the name of competence.
How do I change the sparkplugs in my car?
the one thing to remember above all else...only do one at a time and then put the wire back on before going on to the next one. if you have two off and forget which one is which, they could be put on wrong, causing the plugs to fire at the wrong time. will sound funky.

be sure to check the gap...the distance between the plug and the L shaped piece. if it is now right, it could cause problems. your owners manual should have that info.
How do I change the sparkplugs in my car?
With a plug socket and socket wrench.

As for the particulars, the V-6 in that car is very difficult to work on. You will need a special flexible extension to reach the plugs on the firewall side.
Get a man too. :) LOL
yeah a socked and a dado de 5/8
In the name of Compentence I wish you luck :) I have no clue
Actuly the only things you need pretty much are a 5/8 inch socket with a extenchen, a Ujoint, and ratchet and torque wrench. use the ratchet to take them off and use the torque wrench to torque them down. you can also find the specs of your car of how far you should torque them down in a car service manual for your car. Also you will want to make sure the gap on the plug is gapped to manufactors spec if the car is stock.
I would suggest getting a Chilton manual for that car. It is possible that they need to be torqued to a certain spec--not sure on that. But you will need to change each plug separately to keep the firing order in line.

Also, I would change the wires too. Tha helps performance and increases gas mileage. Again go one at a time and don't mess up the firing order.

Basically, just remove a wire and a plug, replace it and move on to the next one. You will probably need a deep-well socket for the plugs.
fairly strait foward for the 4 cylinder remove old one gap a new one and tighten it down, buy a cheap tourqe wrench if you don't feel comfortable guessing on it, once you own one it's really nice to have if you do a lot of your own work.
I recommend that you go to a parts store and get one of those HAYNES manuals for about $16.00,and it will tell you about a whole lot more than just how to change your plugs.
if it has aluminum heads you will want to put anti-seize compound on the spark plug threads before you put them in. this insures that the plugs can be removed later
i think you should the plug wires as well. socket and wrench. pull the wires off and mark them. then match up the new ones. this will help to get them back on right

buy a manual also it will help for future repairs other things you can do yourself.
Not trying to be a smartie but if you cant locate the spark plugs you really shouldn't be trying any maintnance.

I just change the battery of my Lexus 1994 ES 300 car, after changing the battery, the odometer change to 9999?

My car battery dies out, so I replace a new battery on my Lexus 1994 ES 300. After replace the new battery in my car. I turn on the engine and it work properly. But one thing I noticed is that my odometer change 999999999. Does anyone know how to reset it back to original mileage? My original mileage before was 113489.
I just change the battery of my Lexus 1994 ES 300 car, after changing the battery, the odometer change to 9999?
My father had a 1992 ES300 from late 1991-1999 and he sold it because the computer blew (and it was kind of slow). The same thing happened to him. His odometer just snapped and simultaneously cut the value of the car in half (from $12,000 to $6000). He sold it to some teenager who didn't care about the mileage.

    Sorry.
I just change the battery of my Lexus 1994 ES 300 car, after changing the battery, the odometer change to 9999?
This is a dealer issue. (If you could reset it yourself many people would) It may or may not be worth the cost to fix it. Your car is 14-15 years old so it really won't change the value that much. If you are not going to sell it soon it will not matter. However it is a low mileage vehicle for its age so it would add value to have correct mileage.
Sounds like you will have to get a new cluster circuit board. It is not common at all for this problem to happen but I have seen this probably 2 times in the 8 years of working for Lexus. Might have been from the sudden surge of power when you connected the battery, no one will ever know why it happened.

Will Insurance goes up when I change my car motor?

i am trying to buy a car.

but some cars are cheap when they changed out their motors.

how much will the insurance go up if the motor is changed.

and how much will the insurance go up if the car is modified?
Will Insurance goes up when I change my car motor?
the insurance company only goes by the cars serial numbers as that gives them all the information they need about the car, when you install a larger motor they don't know that.
Will Insurance goes up when I change my car motor?
Well, it depends on how it is modified and what motor you used for the swap. Usually, Insurance companies will charge more for cars that are sporty or have more power. On the modification side, if you do a lot of modifications to your car, chances are the prices for Insurance will go up. I think the reason for this is because if you do happen to get into an accident, it will be harder for them to find the parts you had due to being aftermarket, so they charge more for the policy so that you can get a better coverage on your car.

Would a lack of an oil change make your car start to stall when it slows down?

My car starts to stall! And i'll admit that my oil change is over do. But my lights seem to dim and i feel that it may be my alternator.. once my car stalls i still have lights..

IF it is my oil when i get it changed in the morning would that fix it or just help it?
Would a lack of an oil change make your car start to stall when it slows down?
Lack of oil shoud not directly effect your vehicle to stall but indiectly, it can do lot of serious harm to your car and may be possible to cause such problems.

Driving your car with low/no oil cause serious harm to your engine. It cause it to run at very high temp and wears your engine out hard.

Your problem sounds more like an electical problem. Poor timing. Get some oil and change your oil filter right away. You may need a tune up as well. My best suggestion is; buy some cheap motor oil as well as a good brand. Drain out your old oil then put the cheap stuff in. Run your motor for 5-10min, then drain it out. Change your filter and put the good stuff in. This will help to clean out crap in your engine.

As I said, running your car with no oil can increase heat and it can damage electical components (causing the bearings on these parts losing its turning effectitness like the starter)

Your alternator should be O.K because if its broken, your battery will be drain in no time. Best way to check; losen your nagative terminal (just enough for you to take off easily) start your car then take the cable off. If your car is still running, it is good.

Best of luck!! Hope this helps!

Now go get some oil = ]

    Check your water too!!!

Ohohoh..... one more thing, it is also possible your car's fuel system is screw up (bad fuel filter, fuel pump is screwed, bad fuel line) this can also make your car run run crap!!!
Would a lack of an oil change make your car start to stall when it slows down?
sorry, but a oil change wouldnt help that.sounds like its either the alternator or belt.also have auto zone check the computer for you.
it will help but it wont fix ur problem
It sounds like your alternator is not charging your battery, causing the symptom you describe. Replace it, and have your overdue oil change done at the same time. Lack of oil changes cause premature wear of your engine due to sludging, and lack of proper lubrication of engine parts.
I have to agree somewhat with the last answer. BUT some newer vehicles will not keep running even with a good alternator after you take the battery cable loose. If it starts back up then I would lean more towards needing a tune up, (spark plugs, wires, fuel/air filters, engine accessory belt, also distributor cap and rotor if this is an older vehicle) also depending on if it is a gasoline engine or diesel, very different ignition systems. It is also possible that the voltage regulator could be bad in the alternator and cause it to die at low idle and be able to restart. Most auto part stores will test your charging system for free so keep that in mind. It really doesnt sound like the old dirty oil causing the stalling, but really nasty oil can affect the performance, shouldnt cause it to stall though, usually if its that bad it wont start back up because the engine will be seized from lack of lubrication. If your still having problems give us more information on what type of vehicle you have or buzz me on messenger.

  • Why won't my car change into third gear?

I can feel the strain when my car will not change gears. The RPM goes up between 3 and 4 while I am moving just 35-40mph.
Why won't my car change into third gear?
you've given us just enough information to tell you that either your, shift column, your transmission or your ECM is faulty. Or that you are not selecting the correct gear.
Why won't my car change into third gear?
if it automatic, check the modulator on the tranny, it might be bad.

How do you know if you need a timing belt change for your car i have a 96 toyota camary?
I think a Timing Belt should be changed according to the mileage on the engine...if you go much longer than the specified mileage %26quot;should be found in repair manual%26quot;, then you risk it breaking and damage to the engine... and as for the Repair Manual,- i think you will need to buy the hard copy %26quot;book%26quot; from your local auto parts store...

    good day. best wishes

The Gates timing belt replacement guide below shows your 4 or 6 cylinder engine as being a non- interference type engine so you could just keep driving until the belt breaks or slips. Confirm this with your Toyota dealer.

How do you change a fuel pump for a v-6 chevy lumina car ?
First, make sure You've got Power going to the Fuel Pump. Find the Fuse, and use a Test Light to make sure You've got Power.Okay, Replacing the Fuel Pump is a fairly major task, and it involves much more than I could ever Explain in this Column. But, it's inside the Fuel Tank. You'll have to Drain the Tank with a Siphon Hose, Jack the Car up, Disconnect the Electrical Wires and Fuel Hoses from the Tank, after You Relieve the Fuel Pressure, if any, with the Schrader Valve, located under the Hood. Once the Tank is Removed, the entire Fuel Pump and Tank Fuel Float Level Indicator must be carefully removed, the Fuel Pump removed from the Assembly, and replaced and Rewired as was the Original, and a new rubber Gasket carefully installed to the Fuel Tank Cover.I've done it Once, and unless You do it every Day, it's a long, Involved Job. So, Spend $12 for a Haynes Manual that will give Clear-Cut Directions, and about $65 for the New Fuel Pump, and $5 for the new Strainer Filter. This all must be done very carefully, because if you make a Mistake, a Fire could very well be the result. But, if you Pay a Mechanic to Replace it, You'll probably Spend around $250. If You do it Yourself, don't just throw the Old Pump away. There are 2 really Strong Magnets inside the Old Pump, that can be removed Intact, if you're really carefull.%26quot;Open%26quot; it like you would a Sardine Can, by Peeling the Metal Covering.I get some of the Local Repair Shops to save them for Me. Hope this Helps !
How do you change a fuel pump for a v-6 chevy lumina car ?
Before you go changing the fuel pump, you should verify your powers and grounds. If you are sure the pump is bad then you are in for a %26quot;fun%26quot; job. I would also recommend changing your sending unit and strainer sock with the pump (all should be available from your autoparts store). Here are the steps:

    1. Disconnect negative battery cable

    2. Disconnect Fuel Filler Hose/Hoses

    3. Support Fuel Tank with sutible device

    4. Remove bolts holting fuel tank straps to chassis

    5. Lower fuel tank enough to disconnect fuel lines and connector/connectors to sending unit.

    6. Remove sending unit from fuel tank to allow pump to be seviced and replace fuel pump. You will need to lower tank down further to do this.

    7. Reverse procedure to install
Make sure you are getting a signal to the pump

The color i think for the power wire is Pink on that vehicle - its gonna be the bigger of the 4 wires back there - find the connector to the pump under the vehicle and use a test light - have someone try to start the car and see if the light , lights up if yes then you might have a bad pump BUT check fuses and fusible links as well.

By spraying carb cleaner - you are adding fuel thus u are not getting any from the pump - you need to look at all possibilities before you waist your time changing the pump and its only a fuse.

    Good Luck
The pump is in the center of the gas tank, on the top panel. You would have to drop the tank. The pump is liquid cooled, one reason you never let the gas tank run dry. If you go for it, MAKE SURE if you drain the gasoline that you use into a clean container. Mixing gas with many substances and putting the contaminated mixture back in will cause the gas guage sensor to fail. Make sure the battery is not hooked up.
